RiverHawks Roll Over Arkansas Tech
TAHLEQUAH, Okla. -- Northeastern State rolled over Arkansas Tech 8-1in a non-conference match at the NSU tennis courts on Wednesday afternoon.
The RiverHawks won 5-of-6 singles and all three doubles to take the match and snapped the the Gulf South Conference Golden Suns four-match winning streak. The victory improves the RiverHawks to 6-2 for the year.
Northeastern State ranked 16th in the nation, took the first five singles matches before giving up a point. NSU’s top singles player Zuzanna Osinska took a straight set 6-0, 6-0 victory over Michelle Yu. At No. 2 singles Emina Spirtovic won in straight sets over Saki Matsuoka 6-4, 6-2 and Michaela Romanova at No. 3 rolled by Brittany Turner with a straight set victory 6-3, and 6-0.
It was another straight set win at No. 4 for the RiverHawks as Claire Chanay stopped Emorie Mallow 6-3, 6-2 while NSU’s Karolina Cichon needed just two sets to defeat the Golden Suns laura Palomino 6-1 and 6-1.
The lone NSU loss came at No. 5 singles the Golden Suns Jessica James had to go to a three set tiebreaker to defeat the RiverHawks Valerie McKinney, 6-1, 4-6, 1-0 (14-12) in the tiebreaker.
It was a sweep for the RiverHawks in doubles play with NSU winning all three matches. Osinsaka and Spirtovic stopped Matsuoka and Turner 8-2, Belejova and Chanay stopped Mallow/Jessica Velasquez 8-0 and Cichon/Romanova defeated Jessica James and Nina Greenway 8-3.
