LSC Title Runs Ends in Semis

WICHITA FALLS, Texas --- Northeastern State's run at another Lone Star Conference tennis championship came to an end as Tarleton State pulled out a 5-4 victory in the semi-finals held at the Weeks Tennis Center here Thursday afternoon.

 

The RiverHawks trailed 2-1 after the doubles competition as the #1 doubles team of Zuzanna Osinska and Emina Spirtovic collected the only point with a 9-7 victory over Tarleton's Natalia Yanes and Melanie Zilles.  The TexAnn's captured a tough 9-7 victory at #2 doubles over Karolina Cichon and Michaela Romanova. 

 

Heading into singles, the RiverHawks needed to take four of the six matches to claim the victory.

 

Agata Skorupska got the ball rolling claiming the first point for Northeastern State at #5 singles blanking TSU's Melanie Zilles 6-0, 6-0.  Romanova followed with a 6-3, 6-3, victory at #4 singles over Jade Charlot to give the RiverHawks a 3-2 advantage.

 

Tarleton's Adriana Jaskova picked up the first singles point with a 6-2, 6-4 victory over Karolina Cichon to tie the match.  At #1 singles, TSU's Natalia Yanes pulled out a tough three set victory over Osinska 6-1, 2-6, 6-4 and Northeastern State's Spirtovic collected a tough three set victory with a 6-7, 6-4, 6-2 decision over Chrissie Cooper.

           

The match came down to the #6 singles match between Northeastern State's Claire Chaney and TSU's Evgeniya Prokofeva.   Chaney claimed the first set 6-4, but dropped the second set 6-7 and the third set 3-6 as the TexAnn's captured the 5-4 victory.

 

The RiverHawks are now 18-4 on the year and will wait their regional assignment.
