RiverHawks To Host Regional

TAHLEQUAH, Okla. --- Northeastern State will host the 2010 NCAA Division II Women's Tennis Championships as the South Central Region #2 site, announced by the NCAA on Wednesday night.

The RiverHawks are 13-4 on the year and finished as runners-up to Abilene Christian last weekend to secure the host bid. It will be Northeastern State's 14th consecutive appearance in the NCAA regional and eighth time to host. Champions from each regional advance to the Sweet 16 at Sanlando Park, Fla., in two weeks.

"It shows you they (NCAA) respect you as a quality program and hosting is a reward for quality programs," Cox said. "It is just like having a home field advantage in football or basketball."

Northeastern State's first-round opponent will be Midwestern State (14-7). That match is set to begin at 2 p.m. on Thursday, May 6.  The other semifinal match will feature Cameron (13-8) against Tarleton State (12-6) on Thursday, May 6, at 9:30 a.m.

The championship match will be played Friday, May 7, at 10 a.m.

Under the direction of Cox and assistant coach John Hinton, Northeastern State has strung together 17 national title runs, dating back to the period prior to joining NCAA Division II.
