A West Texas Winner
CANYON, Texas --- Northeastern State played its fourth consecutive double-overtime game Friday night. Yet, the outcome was markedly different.
Rachel Sordahl's goal with just 24-second remaining in the extra session provided the lift the RiverHawks needed in a thrilling 2-1 Lone Star Conference victory over the Buffaloes. Northeastern State won its first LSC game of the year and improved to 5-5-5 overall and 1-4-3 in conference play. WT fell to 6-6-3 and 2-5-1.
Emily Voges scored an unassisted goal in the 40th minute and Northeastern State led 1-0 at halftime. The Lady Buffs tallied their lone goal at the 71:00 mark and the match remained tied the rest of the way.
Neither team scored in the first OT session, setting the stage for Sordahl's heroics. The Pryor junior took a pass from Jennifer Clark just inside the 18-yard line and tapped in the game-winner at 109:36.
The RiverHawks will continue LSC action on the road Sunday at Eastern New Mexico.
