Late Golf Lifts RiverHawks

TAHLEQUAH, Okla. --- Northeastern State controlled both ends of the pitch, but it took a Rachel Sordahl goal with just 4:10 to play to lift the RiverHawks to a 2-1 win over visiting Harding University here Tuesday afternoon.

Sordahl, a Pryor sophomore, beat the Bison keeper and chipped in the game-winner from 10 yards out to break a 1-1 deadlock at the 85:50 mark. Northeastern State improved to 4-1-1 overall, while HU fell to 1-5-1.

Celeste St. Gemme converted a Carina Martinez corner kick in the seventh minute to give the RiverHawks a 1-0 lead. However, Harding countered with Chelsea Brandon's tally at 20:58 to make the score 1-all.

Despite a 16-to-5 advantage in shots, the RiverHawks were unable to convert its opportunities until Sordahl's heroics.

Northeastern State will be idle for a week and will open Lone Star Conference play at East Central on Sept. 21 in Ada.
