RiverHawks Fall to Mustangs
WICHITA FALLS, Texas - Northeastern State women dropped a 3-1 Lone Star Conference soccer match to Midwestern State Friday night at the MSU Soccer Field.
Mustangs ran their regular season unbeaten streak to 18 matches and home field winning streak to 12 to improved to 9-0-2 on the season and 3-0 in conference play. The RiverHawks are now 4-6-1 and 1-3-1.
Northeastern State controlled possession and dictated the temp in the first half, but could not overcome the attacking Mustangs.
Midwestern State's Kari Bristow converted a penalty kick which resulted after Kelsey Hill was taken down trying to make a move in the center of the 18-yard box in the 22nd minute for a 1-0 lead.
MSU midfielder Jordan Smith pushed the lead to 2-0 with a shot from the top of the box in the 60th minute.
But the RiverHawks kept coming and scored when freshman Rachel Sordahl scored, her 10th goal of the season in the 71st minute when the ball squeezed through MSU goalkeeper Ashley Meeks' gloves to cut the lead in half, 2-1.
The Mustangs had gone over 723 minutes of clock time without allowing a goal. MSU had not permitted a goal since earning a 1-1 draw with Newman (Kan.) on Sep. 11.
The Mustangs' Lindsay Pritchard looped a shot over Northeastern State goalkeeper P.J. Davis to clinch the win for the Mustangs in the 86th minute.
Both clubs had eight shots on goal in the 90-minute contest. RiverHawks goalkeeper P.J. Davis made five saves in the match.
