RiverHawks Tie Lions

TAHLEQUAH, Okla. ----  Northeastern State and Texas A&M-Commerce battled for 110 minutes with each winning small battles along the way, but neither team could win the war in a 1-1 tie in a Lone Star Conference match up at the NSU Soccer Complex here Thursday afternoon.

 

The RiverHawks moved to 6-7-4 and 3-3-3 in LSC play. Commerce now is 12-2-3 and 6-1-2.

 

Northeastern State's Brittney Nolan gave the RiverHawks a 1-0 lead late in the first half on a free kick from 30 yards out slipped by the Lion's keeper for the early advantage.

 

Northeastern State held the lead late into the second half until the Lion's offensive pressure paid off.  Meagan Lasley converted on a keeper deflection to tie the match at 1-1 with under seven minutes remaining in regulation.  The RiverHawks and Lions ended regulation tied at 1-1.

 

Commerce provided all the offensive action in the extra frames getting three shots off but could not buy a goal.

 

Patricia Nardy collected nine saves on the afternoon while facing 24 Commerce attempts.  The RiverHawks managed only eight shots on the day, but seven were on goal.

 

Northeastern State will face Texas Woman's University on Sunday afternoon in the home finale for the RiverHawks.  Game time is set for 1:00.
