RiverHawks' Tourney Run Ends
CANYON, Texas ---- Northeastern State's tournament run came to an end this afternoon as Midwestern State posted 4-0 victory in the opening round of the 2008 Lone Star Conference Championship held at The Pitch on the campus of West Texas A&M University.
The RiverHawks strong creating several scoring opportunities early in the match, but the MSU defense and keeper Heather Primavera held tough.
Midwestern State's Hanna Staley broke the scoring drought with a shot from four yards out off a deflection to give the Mustangs a 1-0 with 30 seconds remaining in the first half.
MSU extended its lead early in the second half as Kelsey Hill's header off the corner kick of Kari Bristow for a 2-0 advantage. The Mustangs sealed the victory in the 66th minute when Brandy O'Neal beat NSU keeper Patricia Nardy one-on-one for a 3-0 MSU lead. The Mustangs added one more goal from Lindsay Pritchard to move on with a 4-0 win.
The shot total between the two teams were almost the same, with the RiverHawks getting off 16 total shots (7 on goal) and the Mustangs tallied 17 total shots (9 on goal).
Nardy finished the day with five saves and Hannah Struck led the offensive attack with two shots on goal.
Northeastern State's season comes to an end with a 7-8-4 record and will look to build this seasons success heading into the 2009 campaign.
