RiverHawks Win 7-on-7 Tournament

JOPLIN, Mo. – Northeastern State closed out its spring women’s soccer season at a seven-on-seven tournament  at Missouri Southern State University last week and the RiverHawks under new head coach Chase Wooten won the eight-team event.

The RiverHawks defeated host Missouri Southern State 2-0 in the finals, after winning its bracket. The RiverHawk goals scored in the finals were by Katie Valdez and Celeste St. Gemme.

En route to the championship game the RiverHawks defeated Northeastern A&M 7-0, Missouri Southern State 4-1, Rogers State 5-0, and Missouri Southern State Alumni 3-2 in overtime.

“We got some good play in goal from senior P.J. Davis and Melissa Michelsen did a good job in the back,” said Wooten. “Lisa Turner also had a great weekend and Rachel Sordahl did a good job.” said Wooten.

Wooten added, “Our kids worked hard and it was a nice way to end the spring. It was all positive for us.

“We now know what we have to work on during the summer months and it was good to win the bracket and end the spring,” said Wooten.
