NSU Goes WAY Low

OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. --- Northeastern State shattered several school and personal records on Monday during the opening round of the UCO Classic at Lincoln Park.

NSU blistered the par-70 course for a school-record round of 282 and leads St. Edward's by nine shots and host Central Oklahoma by 12 heading into Tuesday's final round. The round of 282 bettered the previous school record of 292, which occurred in 2009 at WinStar Golf Course during the Lone Star Conference championships.

Whitney McAteer also had a personal best as a collegiate golfer for the RiverHawks. The Jenks junior fired a 3-under-par 67 and she leads the tournament as an individual by two strokes over Texas A&M-International's Taminie Panich. McAteer was +2 at the turn before recording a spectacular 5-under-par 30 on the back nine.

Kelsey Kirkpatrick, tied for fifth overall, carded a one-over 71. Brooke Allison, playing in her first collegiate tournament at NSU, had a 72 as did Danielle Wright. In doing so, Wright also eclipsed her career-best tournament round. Alex Koch's 76, which did not count in the RiverHawks' total, also logged her best round to date.

NSU is looking for its second tournament win on the year in the 21-team field. A total of 118 players make up the event.
