McAteer Defends WOGA Title
MUSKOGEE, Okla. (June 23) --- Whitney McAteer defended her Women's Oklahoma Golf Association State Amateur title on Thursday. The Northeastern State junior-to-be from Jenks outlasted Aubrey Vaughan 3 and 1 to claim the 93rd Annual WOGA championship at Muskogee Country Club.
McAteer became only the 12th golfer, and the first since 1999, to repeat as champion of the event which began in 1915. Bonnie Hanlin accomplished the feat in 1998 & 1999.
NSU was well represented on Thursday as incoming freshman Alexandra Koch, also from Jenks, won the President's Flight championship with a win over Teresa DeLarzelere in 20 holes. Danielle Wright, from Tulsa Union who was a redshirt freshman for the RiverHawks this season, edged Sidney Tallon 3 and 2, to claim the championship flight consolation title.
"This was a monumental day for these three NSU golfers and I am extremely proud of what they accomplished," said RiverHawks head coach Scott Varner. "Each one showed their true competitive nature; Whitney repeating as champion, Danielle playing 41 holes on Wednesday to advance and Alex going 20 holes in her championship match today."
