RiverHawks Roll in Golf Classic

TAHLEQUAH, Okla. --- Whitney McAteer claimed medalist honors and Northeastern State captured the team championship Tuesday in the 12th Annual NSU Women's Golf Classic at Cherry Springs Golf Club.

McAteer, a Jenks sophomore, edged three other players including teammate Kelsey Kirkpatrick, by one stroke to win the individual title for the second year in a row. After a stellar first round of one-over-par 73, McAteer struggled with a 77 in the final round, which was delayed 90 minutes by morning thunderstorms.

The RiverHawks had rounds of 303 and 313 for a total of 616. Runner-up Midwestern State began the day only five shots behind Northeastern State, but managed a meager 321 on the last 18 holes.

Northeastern State had three players in the top 10. Behind McAteer and Kirkpatrick, Paola Torres tied for seventh with scores of 81-77=158. Shaunda Petree and Danielle Wright tied for 16th overall at 161.

Southern Nazarene was third at 640, while East Central and Incarnate Word tied for fourth at 649.
