Nelson Leads, Women 3rd After Round 2

SAN ANTONIO, Texas --- Casey Nelson is atop the leaderboard at 6-under-par after two rounds were completed in the annual Lone Star Conference Golf Championships on Tuesday.

On the women's side, Whitney McAteer carded a 2-over 73 and Danielle Wright fired a solid 75 for NSU to help the RiverHawks to a 3rd place standing with 18 holes to play.

Tarleton State improved their lead with a six-over par 287 tally for the second straight day.  The TexAnns hold a 20-shot lead after two rounds at the Lone Star Conference Women’s Golf Championships.

The annual league event, which features 12 women's teams, is being held at The Republic Golf Club in San Antonio.

Tarleton (287-287=574) is followed by Incarnate Word (594), Northeastern State (605), Midwestern State (606) and Central Oklahoma (613).

Sharon Lau paced the TexAnn performance with a three-under-par effort to finish at 68 today and move up from 10th to tied for 2nd place overall at 142.  Carla Cooper stayed in the lead at 140 with a one-over round today.  The rounds of 68 by Cooper on Monday and Sharon Lau matched the lowest round score in LSC Championship play.

UIW’s Jessica Cornish is stayed in second (142) following a two-over 18 holes.

Central Oklahoma saw its 12-stroke lead trimmed to two as Abilene Christian and Cameron put together the low rounds of the day during Monday’s second round at the Lone Star Conference Men’s Golf Championships.  The annual league event, which features 11 men's teams, is being held at Randolph Oaks Golf Course in San Antonio.

The Bronchos stayed in first place at four-over-par (284-296=580) but the Wildcats and Aggies were both under-par to close the distance with 18 holes of play remaining on Wednesday.

ACU was two-under-par (296-286=582) with three Wildcats finishing at even par or better led by Cyril Bouniol with a three-under 18 holes and Alex Carpenter and Tyler Sheppard at even-par. 

CU posted a four-under effort (303-284=587) with a trio turning in under-par efforts: Brady Porter (-3), Jason Timmis (-2) and Trey Lawson (-2).

Northeastern State’s Casey Nelson holds a one-shot advantage over West Texas A&M’s Ben Hargis and UCO’s Colby Shrum in the individual race.  Nelson is at six-under-par (68-70=138) with Hargis and Shrum at 139.

Texas A&M-Commerce (597) is in fourth place followed by Southwestern Oklahoma (601).
