Bird Ends Career at Regionals

OMAHA, Neb. ---   Stephanie Bird's bid for a spot in the national tournament came to an end as she finished 10th in the medalist competition. Bird carded a final round 79 to finish the three day tournament at 26-over-par, 242, at the Ironwood Golf and Country Club here Wednesday afternoon.

Bird started day on a better note with pars on the holes one and two before capturing her first birdie of the tournament on the par 4 third hole. Setting at one under par, Bird's momentum was quickly erased after a tough three hole stretch where she bogeyed holes six and eight while doubling seven to make the turn at three over par.

Over the final nine holes, Bird bogeyed holes 10, 12, 17 and 18 to end her RiverHawks career with a seven over par 79.  Although her round was not up to par for Bird, it proved to be one of the better rounds of the day as only four other players faired better in the final round.

Tarleton State took home the West Regional title for the second straight year, as West Texas A&M and CSU-Chico move on to the national tournament while Angelo State's Raelyn Smith will move on to the national tournament as individual.
