RiverHawks Stay in Top 10

LILBURN, Ga. --- Northeastern State remained in the Top 10 in this week's basketball coaches poll.

After suffering only its second loss of the year at Central Oklahoma on Saturday, NSU fell four spots to No. 10 in the latest USA TODAY ESPN Division II Top 25 Coaches' Poll. The RiverHawks, 17-2, received 493 points and remains the top-ranked squad from the South Central Region.

UC-San Diego, which received all 32 first-place votes, held on to the top spot again this week after running its season mark to a perfect 20-0. Edinboro, the nation's only other unbeaten squad at 18-0, moved up to No. 2 after Clayton State was beaten.  Metropolitan State of Denver is 3rd, followed by Wayne State (NE) and Clayton State which round out the Top 5.

Other South Central Regional teams in this week's poll include Washburn at No. 11, Pittsburg State at No. 12, Arkansas Tech at No. 13 and Emporia State at No. 22. This sets up a potential thriller on Saturday when NSU travels to ESU for a Top 25 battle. Beforehand, through, the RiverHawks have a road battle at Northwest Missouri State on Wednesday night at 6.

Other South Central teams receiving votes this week were: Tarleton State (T32), Midwestern State (T45) and Central Missouri (T47).

This marks the 31st consecutive week Northeastern State has appeared in the Top 25.
