RiverHawks Up to 6th

LILBURN, Ga. --- Northeastern State crept up two spots to No. 6 in this week's USA TODAY ESPN Division II Top 25 Coaches' Poll.

The RiverHawks, at 17-1, are just mere points from cracking the Top 5 after receiving 606 points. The No. 6 ranking this week matches the highest ranking ever achieved by a women's basketball team at NSU.

UC-San Diego (18-0) held on to the top spot for the second consecutive week and is one of only two remaining unbeaten teams in NCAA Division II. Clayton State (18-1) is second, Edinboro (16-0) is third, Metro State of Denver (16-1) is fourth and Bentley (16-2) is fifth. Bentley received 32 points more than did the RiverHawks in the Jan. 24 rating.

Other South Central Region teams in the poll include Arkansas Tech (No. 13), Washburn (No. 14), Pittsburg State (No. 16) and Emporia State (No. 17). NSU still has to face Pitt State and Emporia State on the road this season. Northeastern State's only loss to date is against ESU.
