NSU Whips Bronchos

TAHLEQUAH, Okla. --- Taylor Lewis scored 12 points to help No. 12-ranked Northeastern State to a 59-40 victory over visiting Central Oklahoma at Dobbins Field House Thursday night.

Its was the first of four regular season games between the two rivals. NSU improved to 14-1 and UCO fell to 10-7.

Lewis tallied eight second-half points as both squads struggled offensively. The RiveHawks managed just 23-of-66 on the night and missed several short-range shots to finish at 34.8 percent from the floor.

The difference in the game was a 12-minute Broncho drought in the first half as the team made only five-of-28 shots. UCO led 5-0 early before its offense went stagnant. Britney Morgan's trey with 12:40 left in the first gave Central Oklahoma an 11-7 edge, but UCO didn't score another basket until Autumn Huffman's layup with :19 left made it 26-13 in favor of the RiverHawks.

NSU continued to dominate in the second half and never allowed the Bronchos any closer. Lewis drained a 3-point basket to push the lead to 42-23 with 11:20 showing and Northeastern State went on to build a 22-point cushion twice late before the final outcome.

Megan Fraley had 10 and Fontana Tate came off the bench to score a season-high 10 points as well. Cristy Nitz, who leads the team in scoring, was held to eight, all of those coming in the first period.

Courtney Harper had a double-double (11 points/11 rebounds) to pace UCO.

NSU collected a season-best 53 rebounds with Tosha Tyler and Sarah Green gathering in nine boards apiece.

The RiverHawks will be idle until next Wednesday when they host 10th-ranked Pittsburg State. Tip-off at Dobbins Field House is slated for 6:00 p.m.
