NSU To Host South Central Regional
INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. --- Northeastern State has
been chosen the No. 1 seed and host site for the 2011 NCAA Division
II Women's Basketball South Central Regional. The RiverHawks,
ranked 9th nationally, are 24-4 overall and will host the 8-team
regional Friday, Saturday and Monday, Mar. 11, 12 & 14, at Jack
Dobbins Field House in Tahlequah.
NSU will take on the Unversity of Texas-Permian Basin (21-7) in one
of the four quarterfinals games on Friday. Other first-round
matchups include:
Washburn (KS) University (22-6) vs. University of Central Oklahoma
(20-9); Tarleton State (Texas) University (24-4) vs. Southeastern
Oklahoma State University (20-7); and Northwest Missouri State
University (24-4) vs. Texas Woman's University (22-10). Game times
have yet to be determined.
Northeastern State is making its sixth NCAA Tournament
appearance, all of which have come under the direction of head
coach Randy Gipson. NSU qualified for the Big Dance in 2003, 2004,
2005, 2006, 2010 and again this year. Northeastern State has
finished as regional runners-up twice (2003 & 2010), but have
never made it to the Elite Eight. Last year, the
RiverHawks advanced to the regional championship before
bowing out to eventual national champion Emporia State.
