RiverHawks Battle Texas A&M-Commerce

TAHLEQUAH, Okla. --- Northeastern State seeking to rebound from a disappointing loss to arch-rival Central Oklahoma last Monday night is now focusing on Texas A&M-Commerce Wednesday night.

The RiverHawks and Lions meet in a Lone Star Conference North Division game at Jack Dobbins Field House. Tip-off is 6 p.m.

The RiverHawks remain in a three way tie for the North Division lead with UCO and Texas Woman's at 5-1. Northeastern State, ranked No. 3 in the South Central Regional poll, enters the game with the Lions at 16-5 overall. Texas A&M-Commerce is 1-4 in the division and 4-14 overall having lost four consecutive games.

In the Lions last outing Commerce fell to Texas Woman's University 106-76 with Genevieve Campbell, 5-7 junior guard, scoring 22 points in the loss. Mattilyn McIntyre, 5-9 junior guard, a transfer from University of Arkansas-Little Rock, added 17 points, with Ashley Murphy, 5-11 senior guard/forward scoring 14 points. Tiffany Mitchell, 5-9 sophomore guard, added 10 points in the loss to the Pioneers.

McIntyre is the Lions leading point producer with a 15.3 scoring average fifth in the LSC and is shooting 41.3 percent from the floor. Campbell, is also scoring in double figures and ranks 18th on the LSC scoring chart, with a 12.4 average and 41.0 percent from the field.

The Lions are averaging 64.7 on offense (13th in the LSC) and giving up 79.6 on defense (14th in the LSC).

After the RiverHawks 77-74 loss to Central Oklahoma snapping Northeastern State's seven game winning streak, NSU has won 13 of its last 16 games.

Northeastern State enters the Commerce clash averaging 66.6 points a game and 56.0 points on defense, second in the LSC and 17th in Division II.

Jasmine Webb continues to lead the RiverHawks in scoring with an 11.0 average, shooting 55.8 percent from the field.  Defense is the key note of head coach Randy Gipson's team, as he relies on a balanced scoring attack.

Alix Perkins and Cristy Nitz are scoring 9.3 and 9.0 points respectively. Nitz, a sophomore from Dewey, was selected the Lone Star Conference North Division Offensive Player of the Week, for her performance last week against Texas Woman's University.

Nitz scored nine her the RiverHawks team-high 18 points  during a span of 3:55 to open the second half and the RiverHawks erased an eight-point deficit en route to a 75-67 victory.

Jessica White, Megan Fraley and Kendra Dean are scoring 7.7, 6.0 and 5.8 points respectively for Northeastern State.

Following the Commerce clash, the RiverHawks return the favor to the Lions by traveling across the Red River to play Commerce on the Lions home floor, beginning at 2 p.m. on Saturday.
