RivernHawks Seek Fourth Straight Win

 

ABILENE, Texas - Northeastern State women will be going after its fourth consecutive victory Monday afternoon when the RiverHawks battle Abilene Christian University at 2 p.m. at Moody Coliseum.

The RiverHawks enter the contest against the Wildcats with an impressive 9-3 record and fresh off a victory on the road against Angelo State 52-43 last Saturday night.

Abilene Christian, who defeated the University of Central Oklahoma on Saturday 81-80 for its fifth consecutive victory, enters the Northeastern State contest 7-3.

"We face a very big challenge in Abilene Christian," said Northeastern State head coach Randy Gipson. "This is going to be a very different ball game from Angelo State who played five guards at one time, to an Abilene team that depends heavily on its post play.

"They are going to play a high-low post game that will be a challenge. Our post people are going to have to step-up and play tough in the post without fouling. That's what we are looking at," said Gipson.

 The Wildcats defeated the Bronchos in the final five seconds of the game when Jamie Meyer drove the lane to score on a layup.

The Wildcats played the UCO game with just seven players due to injuries, but four of them scored in double figures, led by Jody Meyer, 6-0 senior forward, who scored 24 points followed by 5-4 seiorr guard Sara Montgomery with 15, 5-10 junior guard Autumn Whitaker scored 15.

The Wildcats scoring is led by 6-0 senior forward Jamie Meyer, the sister of Jody Meyer, is averaging 21.7 points and ranks 11th in the nation in scoring. Meyer is also pulling down 7.2 rebounds. Jody Meyer is averaging 15.6 points a game and is the Wildcats top rebounder, averaging 11.6 caroms a game.

Abilene Christian is scoring 70.6 points a game and giving up 67.0 points an outing.

  The RiverHawks used an opening second-half 3-point barrage to defeat Angelo State behind Jessica White's 14 points and Jasmine Webb ‘s 10 points. Webb is NSU's leading scorer on the season at 10.8, followed by Alix Perkins at 9.0 and White at 7.4. Cristy Nitz and Sarah Millar are scoring 7.3 and 5.3 respectively.

Northeastern State is averaging 61.5 points on offense and 53.0 on defense, to rank second in the Lone Star Conference and 16th in the nation.
