RiverHawks Play Midwestern State

 

WICHITA FALLS, TEXAS - Northeastern State University women will play its first Lone Star Conference crossover game Sunday when the RiverHawks travel to Wichita Falls, Texas, to play Midwestern State University.

The RiverHawks coming off an impressive 71-67 road victory over St. Mary's (Texas) University enter the Mustangs' clash with a 5-2 record. The Mustangs have lost two in a row after an opening season win over Harding University.

Midwestern State defeated Harding 69-58 and lost two straight in the Skyhawk Classic in Durango, Colo.,  to Western State 71-53 and Ft. Lewis State 82-54.

"We begin our LSC crossover games and they are always tough to win," said RiverHawks head coach Randy Gipson. "The St. Mary's game and the Southwest Baptist games on the road got us ready for the difficulties of playing on the road in the Lone Star."

 The Mustangs are led by Nolisha Markham, 5-10, junior forward, who played at Tulsa East Central High School and Northeastern A&M Junior College. Markham is averaging 14.3 points a game and scored 20 points in her first game for Midwestern State in the season opener against Harding University.

Aqueelah Watkins, 5-11, junior guard/forward is averaging 11 points a game and Savannah Carver, 5-10, sophomore forward is scoring 10.3 points a game.

Midwestern State is averaging 58.7 points a game while allowing the opposition 70.3 points a game.

The RiverHawks come into Sunday's game averaging 66.1 points on offense and allowing opponents just 55.1 points a game.

Jasmine Webb, 5-11, junior forward, who had a double-double against Southwest Baptist in their last outing, is averaging 12.7 points a game and 5.1 rebounds entering the game.

Alix Perkins, 5-8, sophomore guard, who was the LSC Freshman of the Year last season, follows Webb in the scoring with 10.1 points. Perkins scored 12 points in her last outing against Southwest Baptist.

Cristy Nitz, 5-11, sophomore forward, is averaging 8.7 points a game and poured in 10 points against SW Baptist and  16 against University Texas-Permian Basin.

Following the Midwestern State game, the RiverHawks will travel to Stephenville, Texas, to play Tarleton State on Dec. 3 in a LSC crossover game. Tip-off is 6 p.m.
