Gipson Adds to 2010 Signing Class

TAHLEQUAH, Okla. – Northeastern State University  women’s basketball coach Randy Gipson announced the signing of two high school players to complete his 2010 recruiting class.

Joining the RiverHawks are 6-4 center Raquel Dent from Red Oak, Texas, High School and 6-0 post Carrington Fox from Union High School in Tulsa

.
“We are excited about our last two additions in our recruiting class,” said Gipson. “With these two kids we have added some height.  We have never had a 6-4 player before, and we have two kids here that are 6-foot and bigger that both run the floor very well. We feel they both have a lot of potential,” said Gipson.

Dent and Fox join two other high school players who signed with the RiverHawks two weeks ago Taylor Collins, 5-10 guard from Heavener and Katy Harsen, 5-6 guard from Coweta.

Dent, who played for former NSU player Melissa Fullmer at Red Oak, averaged 7.0 points per game for the Hawks, pulling down 5.0 rebounds, with 3 block shots and 1 assist per game. She shot 51 percent at the free throw line and 40 percent from the floor.

Dent was instrumental in leading the Hawks to the District 15-4A runner-up spot and advanced to the playoffs for the first time in five seasons.

“Raquel Dent gives us unusually good height and we feel she can develop into a defensive stopper in the lane that can play against about anybody,” said Gipson.

Fox, who was named to the East Squad of the Oklahoma Girls Basketball  Coaches Association All-State Team, was also an honorable mention Tulsa World All-Metro selection.
She averaged 7.3 points a game, 6 rebounds an outing and 2.0 blocks a contest. Fox shot 40 percent from the field.

"Carrington is another one that is a very mobile 6-footer that can give us some very good rebounding with the ability to score as well,” said Gipson.

Gipson, who is only one win away from his 500th collegiate victory as a head coach, said he was “very pleased with his recruiting class.”

“We believe we added a lot of quality ingredients to this class in Katy Harsen, a combination guard that can really shoot the ball and Taylor Collins, a superb athlete who can play  three positions and the two post players we’ve added.

“All of these kids move well and the mobility is something that you need to be good at on our level and all of these players possess that in their physical qualities.” said Gipson.
