RiverHawks Roll Over Commerce
COMMERCE, Texas -- Northeastern State took command from the outset and rolled over Texas A&M-Commerce 76-59 for a Lone Star Conference North Division win Saturday afternoon.
The RiverHawks improve to 18-5 on the year and 7-1 in North Division play. The Lions are now 4-16 and 1-7 in division action. The RiverHawks have now won 15 of its last 18 games .
"Our kids did a good job of moving the ball and looking inside to Jasmine (Webb) and she was able to score for us," said Northeastern State head coach Randy Gipson. "We did a good job with our inside and outside offense. I thouht Megan Fraley did a good job at point guard for us. She protected the ball, got the offenise moving and defended very well, " said Gipson.
The RiverHawks and Central Oklahoma reamin tied for the LSC North lead after Saturday's play. The Bronchos defeated Texas Woman's University 96-93.
Northeastern State's Jessica White scored the opening basket of the game and it was all RiverHawks the remainder of the contest as NSU romped to a 47-27 lead at the intermission.
The RiverHawks largest lead of the game was 24-points a 43-19 advantage with 3:23 remaining in the first half on a 3-point shot by White. The closest the Lions came in the second half was 16 points 66-50 with 4:30 remaining.
The RiverHwaks shot 48 percent from the field connecting on 29-of-61 from the field and 8-of-25 from behind the arc, while sinking 10-of-14 at the free throw line. The Lions shot 41 percent from the field (21-of-51) with Mattilyn McIntyre leading Texas A&M-Commerce's scoring with 18 points. Genevieve Campbell followed with 16 points.
The RiverHawks took control of the game in the first half on 56 percent shooting from the field, connecting on 20-of-36 including a sizzling 6-of-15 on 3-point shots. The Lions managed only 37 percent from the field in the half, connecting on 10-of-27 for 37 percent and did not connect on a 3-point shot.
Northeastern State held a commanding edge on the boards 22-12.
The RiverHawks return to LSC North Division play Wednesday night at Durant against Southeastern State. Tip-0ff is 6 p.m.
