RiverHawks Play for Out Right LSC North DivisionTitle

TAHLEQUAH, Okla. - Northeastern State will be going after its first outright Lone Star Conference North Division championship since 2005 on Saturday when the RiverHawks travel to Weatherford to battle Southwestern State. Tip-off is 2 p.m. at Rankin Williams Field house.

The RiverHawks have already secured the top seed of the LSC Tournament which begins next week in Bartlesville, takes a 23-5 season record and 12-1 North Division record into the Southwestern State game. Northeastern State holds a one-game lead over Central Oklahoma (20-6, 11-2) entering the final game of the regular season. A NSU victory gives the RiverHawks the out-right title.

The RiverHawks have won 14 of their last 15 games and are on a seven-game winning streak.

Southwestern State enters the Northeastern State contest 3-23 and 3-10 in the LSC North after defeating Texas A&M-Commerce 78-75 on Wednesday. The RiverHawks rolled over Cameron University 71-42. In the last meeting between the RiverHawks and Bulldogs, NSU took a 71-54 win at Dobbins Field House.

Megan Fraley, the LSC North Division Defensive Player of the Week, has blistered the nets from behind the arc recently, took game scoring honors against Cameron with 15 points, all coming on 3-point shots. In the past two games Fraley has drained 11 treys. The Adair junior is averaging 7.5 points.

Junior Jasmine Webb, the LSC Offensive Player of the Week, has racked up five double-double this season, scored  10 points in the win against Cameron and pulled down 10 rebounds, leads the NSU scoring with a 12-point  scoring average, 21st. in the Lone Star Conference. She is also averaging 6.3 rebounds, ranking 12th in the conference.

Sarah Millar, one of two seniors on the RiverHawks, said the key to Northeastern State's success is "staying focus."

"We are just going to take it one game at a time and just get better in practice," said Millar."As coach said (Randy Gipson) we haven't played our best basketball yet. We are just trying to stay focused."

Jessica White, senior from Jenks, is in full agreement with Millar about the upcoming Southwestern game and the  LSC Tournament.

"I think the sky is the limit for us," said White. "I truly believe that. One of our favorite sayings this year is BELIEVE. We're not settling for anything less than a championship. I believe we are capable of going all the way.

"I believe we have what it takes and we are just taking it game-by-game," said White.

Southwestern State's scoring is led by Jenna Sprague, who is averaging 11.4 points. The Bulldogs are averaging 64.2 points and giving up 77 on defense.  The RiverHawks are scoring 75 points a game and giving up just 58 in conference action.
