RiverHawks to Battle Southeastern State

TAHLEQUAH, Okla. -- Northeastern State following an impressive win over Southwestern State last week the RiverHawks will be seeking its fourth consecutive win and 10 of its last 12 when Southeastern State invades Jack Dobbins Field House Wednesday night for a Lone Star Conference North Division game. The Riverhawks and Savage Storm will tip-off at 6 p.m.


The RiverHawks sit atop the LSC North Division standings deadlocked for the top spot with Texas Woman’s University at 2-0. The RiverHawks are 13-4 overall and 2-0 in division play. Southeastern State is a game back at 1-1 in the LSC North Division standings and are 11-4 for the season.


The Savage Storm ended a three-game losing streak last Saturday night with a 65-63 win over the University of Central Oklahoma in Edmond. Ashley Hobbs led Southeastern’s scoring with a career-high 18 points, while Kacey Russell added 14 and Destiny Brown scored nine.


Brown, 6-foot senior forward from Stillwater, was selected the LSC North Division pre-season player of the year. She is Southeastern’s leading scorer with a 14.0 scoring average. Brown has connected on 44.2 percent of her shots from the field and is a 35.8 percent shooter from behind the arc. Brown is shooting 74.6 percent at the free throw line and is the Storm’s top rebounder, pulling down 8.9 boards a game.


Russell, 5-5 senior guard from Crandall, Texas, follows Brown on the Southeastern scoring chart with a 13.2 average. She is shooting 55.7 percent from the floor and 42.6 on 3-point attempts. Russell has converted 44-of-55 attempts at the free throw line for 80 percent.


Christin Nichols, 5-7 junior guard from Cooper, Texas, and Elizabeth Dean, 5-10 sophomore forward from Flower Mound, Texas, are scoring 8.9 and 8.7 respectively.


Southeastern State enters the contest against Northeastern State averaging 78.5 points on offense and 68.0 on defense.


Northeastern State is the No. 1 defensive club in the Lone Star Conference North Division allowing just 63.7 points a game. Offensively NSU is scoring 54.1 points a game.


Jasmine Webb, junior post continues to lead the RiverHawks in scoring with a 10.3 scoring average. She is shooting 52.3 percent from the field and 42.9 percent on 3-point shooting. Webb is the leading rebounder with a 5.4 average.


Alix Perkins, the LSC North Division freshman of the year last season, is currently scoring 8.6 points along with Cristy Nitz. Perkins is shooting 43.8 from the field and 36.2 from behind the arc. Nitz is hitting 46.8 from the field and 24.1 on 3-point attempts.


Megan Fraley, Kendra Dean and Jessica White are scoring 5.8, 5.3 and 6.9 points respectively for the RiverHawks.


Northeastern State will go on the road Saturday traveling to Ada to play East Central University in a 2 p.m. LSC North Division game.
