RiverHawks to Battle Eastern New Mexico
TAHLEQUAH, Okla. - Northeastern State women will seek to rebound from a heartbreaking loss to 12th-ranked West Texas A&M Saturday when the RiverHawks play host to Lone Star Conference South Division member Eastern New Mexico University.
Tip-off at the Dollar Day game is 2 p.m. at Jack Dobbins Field House. Admission for the game is $1 and host dogs are on sell for a dollar.
The RiverHawks are 38th in the country have won seven of its last nine games and will be seeking to make it two in a row against the Zias. Eastern New Mexico is 5-9 overall and has lost its last two games to seventh-ranked Fort Lewis, Colo., 70-53 and to Central Oklahoma 87-75 on Thursday night.
In Thursday night's game with UCO the Zias trailed by 20 points midway the second half before going on a 16-2 run pulling to within 10 points before the Bronchos pulled away for the win at Hamilton Field House. Cat Clay led the Zias scoring in the game with 18 points and seven rebounds.
The Zias are averaging 68.5 points on offense and are giving up 75.5 points to the opposition, 14th in the LSC. The RiverHawks have limited opponents to 54.1 points a contest, the No. 2 defensive club in the Lone Star Conference. NSU is scoring at 61.4 points a game.
Cat Clay, 6-1 junior guard/forward, leads the Zias in scoring with a 15.6 scoring average. Clay is shooting .400 from the field and .438 from behind the arc. Ti- Lois Fifer, 5-11 junior forward, follows in the scoring at a 10.3 clip with Tori Northcutt, 5-8 junior guard, following at with a 8.4. average. Northcutt is the Zias' top rebounder pulling down 5.2 boards a game.
In the loss against West Texas A&M, RiverHawks sophomore Alix Perkins, who scored NSU's first 10 points of the game, finished with a game high 19 points.
Jasmine Webb tops the RiverHawks' scoring chart with a 10.3 scoring average and is NSU's top rebounder with a 5.3 average. Perkins is averaging 9.6 points followed by Cristy Nitz at 8.0. Jessica White, who did not play against West Texas A&M in the second half due to a stomach virus, but is expected to play against Eastern New Mexico is averaging 7.2 points a game.
Following the Eastern New Mexico game the RiverHawks returns to action on Wednesday night at Lawton to open LSC North Division play against the Cameron Aggies. Tip-off is 6 p.m.
