RiverHawks Gain Split With Southeastern

TAHEQUAH, Oka –   Northeastern State split a Lone Star Conference doubleheader at the NSU softball Complex Tuesday afternoon defeating Southeastern State 5-4 in the opener and losing a heartbreaker in the night cap 2-1 in eight innings.

The RiverHawks are now 11-25 for the year and 5-9 in Lone Star Conference North Division play, while Southeastern is 19-18 and 4-4 in league action.

Lacee Craig picked up her third win of the season inside the circle as the RiverHawks jumped out to a 5-0 lead after three innings of play.

The RiverHawks scored 3 runs in the second. Shelbi Bowin opened with a walk, and moved to second on a sacrifice bunt by Kelsi Hilderbrandt. Sydney Chapin then homered over the right field wall for a 3-0 Northeastern State lead.

Lisa Ripperger was hit by a pitch and then stole second base after one out in the third inning. With two out Bowin doubled to right field scoring Ripperger. Hilderbrandt then doubled home Bowin for a 5-0 NSU lead.

The Savage Storm came back with two runs each in the fifth and sixth innings as Craig scattered seven hits, walked four and struck out four in getting the win.

The RiverHawks took a 1-0 lead in the third inning of the second game when Bowin reached safely on a throwing error by third baseman Jennifer Morales. Then with two outs, Kylie Morton doubled home Bowin for a 1-0 Northeastern State lead.

Southeastern tied the game in the sixth inning on a Erika Bernal home run. The Savage Storm won the game in the top of the eighth on a RBI single by Amanda Tanner.
