RiverHawks Fall to No. 2 Ranked Angelo State

DURANT -- In the first of two Lone Star Conference Crossover Tournament games Friday at Durant, Northeastern State fell to No. 2 nationally ranked Angelo State 8-6.

The Rambelles took a 6-0 lead after 3 1/2innings of play before the RiverHawks scored in last of the fourth inning.

Lisa Ripperger singled to right center field scoring Shelbi Bowin, who opened the inning with a single to left field.

The RiverHawks added a run in the fifth, slicing the Rambelles advantage to 6-2. Cayce Coleman singled to right center field scoring Jenny Collins. Collins had reached base when she was hit by a pitch from Angelo State’s Tressie  Kellerman.

Angelo State added two more runs in the top of the sixth for an 8-2 lead before the RiverHawks scored three runs in their half of the sixth to narrow the Angelo State lead to 8-5.

Ripperger opened the sixth with a solo home run over the left field wall, her third of the season. Courtney Baker ripped a two-out, 2-run RBI single to right field, scoring Collins and Kyle Morton. Morton had reached base on a fielder’s choice and Collins doubled to left center field.

In the seventh, NSU scored a run on Hilderbrandt’s ground out to third base that allowed Coleman to score. Coleman opened the seventh with a single to left field and advanced to third base when Bowin’s fly ball to right field was dropped.

Coleman went the distance for the RiverHawks, scattering 8 hits, walking six and striking out seven. Coleman is now 5-8 for the season. Ripperger led the RivderHawks hitting attack with two hits in four trips to the plate with two RBIs. Coleman was also 2-for-3 at the plate with an RBI.
