Mustangs Sweep

WICHITA FALLS, Texas --- Midwestern State swept a Lone Star North doubleheader from Northeastern State here Saturday. The Mustangs took both games by a 2-1 score.

The RiverHawks fell to 15-33 overall and 6-14 in league play. MSU improved to 46-6 and 20-2.

In the opener, Midwestern State took a 2-0 lead into the seventh inning, but the RiverHawks countered with a  run top of the frame. Sydney Chapin doubled to lead off the inning and pinch-runner Jenny Collins scored on Kylie Morton's single. However, Ashley Rogers popped up to second to end the comeback attempt one hitter later.

Courtney Baker singled to lead off the final inning of the nightcap with Northeastern State trailing 1-0. After moving to second on Casey Coleman's sacrifice bunt, and Chapin's line out to short, Shelbi Bowin belted an RBI single to left field to score Baker.

However, the Mustangs got the win in the bottom of the 7th off RiverHawk pitcher Coleman with a sacrifice fly with one out to end the game.
