Softball Salvages Split

TAHLEQUAH, Okla. ---- Northeastern State (OK) received a dominating pitching performance from Amy Derichsweiler, while Melissa Simms and Shelbi Bowin collected two RBI as the RiverHawks blanked Arkansas Tech 6-0 in the nightcap of a double header at RiverHawks Park here Thursday afternoon.  The Golden Suns took the opener 5-1.

 

Northeastern State moves to 6-18 on the year, while Arkansas Tech moves to 14-10.

           

The RiverHawks started strong in the opening frame benefiting from three Arkansas Tech errors and hits from Brandi Kimberlin and Bowin put Northeastern State in front 2-0.

 

Northeastern State picked up hits from Shaelyn Moore, DJ Simpson and Kimberlin to plate another run for a 3-0 advantage.   The RiverHawks put the game away in the sixth inning plating three runs on three hits.  Erica Holly opened the inning with a triple.  Ashley Rogers walked and Simms triple to right center cleared the bases.  Moore followed with a single to score Simms and secure the 6-0 victory.

 

Derichsweiler received great defensive play from the RiverHawks as she picked up her first shutout of the year and allowing only three Golden Suns hits.

 

In the opener, Arkansas Tech starter Casey Hammons scattered five hits and fanned seven to help the Golden Suns to a 5-1 victory.  The RiverHawks helped the cause by committing three errors as Tech plated four run through two innings of play.  The Golden Suns added another run in the seventh to complete the 5-1 victory.

 

Northeastern State will play host to Lone Star Conference North Division rival on Saturday March 7 at RiverHawks Park.  First pitch is set for 1:00 p.m.
