NSU falls to West Texas and Texas A&M-Kingsville
DURANT, Okla. – Texas A&M-Kingsville jumped out to a 7-0 lead after three innings and Northeastern State could not overcome the lead as the Javelinas captured an 11-6 win in the Lone Star Conference Crossover Tournament Saturday. The loss leaves the RiverHawks at 6-21 for the season.
NSU struck for four runs in the fourth inning to slice Kingsville’s lead to 7-4. Shelbi Bowin homered over the left center field fence to open the inning. Courtney Baker then doubled home two runs and then scored on Lisa Ripperger’s single to center field.
Kingsville added a run in the fifth for an 8-4 lead, before NSU scored in the top of the sixth when Cayce Coleman was issued a bases loaded walk to force in Baker making it an 8-5 game.
Kingsville added three runs in the sixth for the 11-5 final. Megan Heskett led the RiverHawks hitting attack with a 3-for-4 performance at the plate. Ripperger was perfect at the plate going 3-for-3.
In Friday’s late game the RiverHawks fell to No. 22 nationally ranked West Texas A&M 5-3 and fell to 6-20 for the season. West Texas improved to 23-11.
The Buffs took a 1-0 lead on a RiverHawks throwing error, but NSU answered back on a RBI single by Shelbi Bowin to tie the game.
West Texas added two runs in the second and a single run in the third for a 4-1 advantage. The RiverHawks scored two runs in its half of the fourth cutting the West Texas leads to 4-3. The big blow for NSU was a 2-run RBI double by Casey Moyer.
The Lady Buffs added an insurance run in the fifth for the 5-3 win. Lacee Craig took the loss, dropping her record to 1-9.
