Buffs Roam, Beat RiverHawks

CANYON, Texas --- West Texas A&M scored three goals in the first half then cruised to a 3-1 win over Northeastern State in a men's Lone Star Conference match here Friday night.

The RiverHawks fell to 5-8 overall and 0-5 in league play. WTAMU improved to 9-5-1 and 3-3.

The Buffs scored at 5:19 into the match, but Northeastern State's Josue Garcia countered to tie the score just :31 later on a nice cross from Andre Hernandez for an easy shot from 10 yards out to the far post.

However, WT answered in the 12th minute and again in the 32nd minute to pull ahead 3-1. Northeastern State failed to capitalize in the final half. West Texas played the last 40 minutes with only 10 players after Chandler Elder picked up a red card.

The RiverHawks will meet Eastern New Mexico on Sunday before returning for a home match under the lights at 7 p.m. Tuesday against Texas-Permian Basin.
