RiverHawks Edge St. Mary's, Lose at TAMI

SAN ANTONIO, Texas --- Northeastern State used goals early in each half to fend off scrappy St. Mary's University on Sunday, 2-1, in a non-conference soccer match in San Antonio, Texas.

Maxime Blanc and Cory Cipollone each tallied a goal for the RiverHawks as they improved to 3-1 on the young season. STMU fell to 1-3.

Sambo Claros and Andre Hernandez each recorded assists, and it appeared Northeastern State was headed for a shutout until Aaron Stares found the net in the 82nd minute. The RiverHawks were playing short-handed after three red cards were issued in Friday's match at Texas A&M-International. In that game, the RiverHawks played 73 minutes with only eight on the pitch. Compounding the problem was the fact that starting keeper, Matt Murrell, was already serving a suspension for a red card he received a week ago.

TAMI routed the RiverHawks 4-0 in Friday's match.

Northeastern State will play its first home game of the 2010 campaign on Tuesday when the RiverHawks host Harding in the second game of a soccer twinbill in Tahlequah.
