Mustangs Remain Perfect, Edge RiverHawks
TAHLEQUAH, Okla. --- Northeastern State's bid to upset unbeaten Midwestern State lasted nearly 78 minutes. However, the Mustangs got the game-winning goal at the 77:30 mark to edge the RiverHawks 2-1 in Lone Star Conference play.
The Mustangs improved to 11-0 and 4-0 in league play, while the RiverHawks fell to 5-7 and 0-4.
After a scoreless first half, MSU's Chad Caldwell converted a Ryan Spence corner kick in the 68th minute for a 1-0 lead. That advantage was short-lived, thoug, when Andre Hernandez blasted a 10-yard goal off a cross from Josue Garcia to tie the match less than 7:30 later.
Midwestern State's VcMor Eligwe scored the decisive goal off the toe of Bryce Taylor from just five yards out at 77:30 and the Mustangs escaped with the win.
Northeastern State will play at West Texas A&M next Friday as the second round of LSC action gets underway in Canyon, Texas.
