Eastern New Mexico Subdues RiverHawks

 

PORTALES, NEW MEXICO - Northeastern State University fell to Eastern New Mexico  3-0 in a Lone Star Conference men's soccer match Sunday afternoon at the Greyhounds pitch.

The RiverHawks are now 6-6 on the season and 3-3 in conference play, while the Greyhounds improve to  10-3-1 and 1-2 in league action.

The Greyhounds opened the scoring in the first half when Mychael Contrerras scored at 28:46 on a rebound shot off a free kick. He was assisted by Emerson Rodriquez.

Eastern New Mexico went up 2-0 in the second half when Emerson Rodriguez scored his first of two goals on the afternoon at 69:24. The goal came on a cross pass from Artur Oliveira. Rodriguez made it 3-0 when he scored at 76:19 on an assist by Oliveira.

The River Hawks fired 20 shots on goal and Eastern New Mexico 11, with RiverHawks' goalkeeper Matt Murrell making three saves. Greyhounds' goalkeeper Alistair Caldwell stopped seven RiverHawks shots on goal.

Northeastern State will next play Texas A&M-International at 3 p.m. Friday at the RiverHawks pitch.
