RiverHawks Stop Lindenwood

TAHLEQUAH - Northeastern State University men shutout the visiting Lindenwood (Mo.) Lions 1-0 Saturday afternoon at the RiverHawks' Soccer Complex.

Sam Vernalls scored his first goal of the season at the 12:49 mark on an assist by teammate Dre Hill that deflected off a Lindenwood defender.

It was the first shutout of the season for RiverHawks' goal keeper Jordan Ladbrooke.

The victory upped Northeastern State's record to 3-2 going into a Wednesday clash with John Brown University at 4 p.m.  The JBU clash was cancelled last week due to inclement weather. Lindenwood with the loss fell to 1-4.

Lindenwood outshot the RiverHawks 8-6 in the match, with Ladbrooke making three saves for the RiverHawks.

Northeastern State missed several opportunities to score in the second half.

Vernalls, Henry Wildenborg, Cory Schmeling all had scoring opportunites, but their shots on goal either went wide or over the net.

Vernalls, however, missed a golden opportunity for the RiverHawks  at the 84:22 mark to put Northeastern State ahead 2-0.

Vernalls was given a penalty kick opportunity. But Lindenwood goal keeper Aleksander Vulovic  blocked the shot.
