Dingledine Leads RiverHawks
TAHLEQUAH, Okla. ----- Northeastern State's Anthony Dingledine scored two goals, including the game winner with under two minutes remaining, in a thrilling 3-2 victory over Eastern New Mexico at the NSU Soccer Complex here Friday afternoon.
The RiverHawks moved to 3-11-1 and 2-4 in Southwest Soccer Conference play with the win. ENMU fell to 4-7-2 and 2-2-1.
The Greyhounds struck first early in the first half as Artur Oliveria delivered a cross to Emerson Rodrigues for a 1-0 ENMU lead.
However, the bounces went the way of the RiverHawks on the afternoon. Zach Schmoker launched a rocket that bounced off ENMU keeper, Peter Horak, and Dingledine was there for the rebound and his shot found the net to tie the match at 1-1.
Eastern New Mexico once again jumped ahead early in the second half as Jerry Varpilah out-ran the NSU defenders for an easy goal to put the Greyhounds in front 2-1.
Robert Yang tied the match later in the final half as he took the rebound off a defender and tie the match at 2-2.
Both teams battled back and forth for the next 30 minutes until Dingledine collected his second goal of the day and 10th of the season with 1:55 to go in the match.
Northeastern State returns to action on Sunday afternoon in another Southwest Soccer Conference match against West Texas A&M. Game time is set for 1:00.
