RiverHawks Tie Jets

TAHLEQUAH, Okla. ---- Northeastern State (2-11-1) jumped out to a 2-0 first half advantage, but could not hold on as Newman University (5-5-4) battled back to force a 2-2 tie at the NSU Soccer Complex here Sunday afternoon.

The RiverHawks captured a quick 1-0 advantage as Robert Yang received a pass from Zach Schmoker and fired a rocket from 20 yards out for his second goal of the year.

NSU struck again midway through the half as Yovany Castillo netted a shot from 25 yards out past the Newman keeper for a 2-0 lead.

Newman captured its first goal of the match six minutes later, as Joe Gerant headed the ball past keeper, Chris Jones, to cut the deficit in half at 2-1.

Both teams battled the remainder of the first half and most of the second half before Gerant struck again with two minutes remaining to tie the match at 2-2.

The defenses stepped up during the two overtime periods as neither team put together scoring opportunities to end at a 2-2 tie.
