Golf Finishes 9th
PHOENIX, Ariz. --- Casey Nelson led Northeastern State with a two-over-par 216 over three rounds, but the RiverHawks finished in ninth place overall in the Grand Canyon Fall Invitational here Tuesday afternoon.
Nelson blistered the course with a five-uner 67 in his opening round on Monday, but saw his scores balloon to 75 and 76 on the final 36 holes. Still, his 218 was good enough to put him into the top 10 in the medalist's race.
Kyle Fouts had a 225 (74, 77, 74) and tied for 21st. Blake Walker tied for 33rd at 229, Zach Tucker tied for 60th at 235 and Brad Hager's 236 tied him for 67th overall.
Northeastern State had a first round of 293 and sat in fourth place heading into Monday's second round. However, the round was delayed by thunderstorms and had to be completed on Tuesday. By day's end, the RiverHawks had struggled to a lackluster 307, then followed that up today with a 305 for a 54-hole total of 905.
Western Washington took the team title at 864, some 20 shots better than host Grand Canyon University and Colorado-Colorado Springs. Texas Wesleyan was 4th at 890 and Colorado State-Pueblo was fifth at 896.
