RiverHawks Just 5 Strokes Back at LSC Golf Championships

THACKERVILLE, Okla.  -- Northeastern State trails Cameron University by only five strokes after the opening round of play at the Lone Star Conference Men’s Championship at the WinStar Golf course in Thackerville.

Cameron holds a two-shot advantage over Central Oklahoma after recording a five-over par 293, as the 10 team field battled cold and wet weather conditions Sunday at the par 72, 7,272-yard course. Only three players shot even-par or better.

Midwestern State was third at 296 and leads a pack of four schools within five shots of Cameron.  Abilene Christian and Northeastern State are just off the pace at 10-over par (298).

MSU’s Travis Klutts leads the medalist race after his four-under-par 68.  His round included three birdies and one eagle.  CU’s Michael Lee (71) and ACU’s Cyril Bouniol (72) are in second and third place individually.

Northeastern State’s Blake Walker was five strokes back after shooting an opening round 1-over par 73.

Play continues on Monday with the second round tee times beginning at 10:42 a.m.
