Wood Contends, Fouts Close Behind

DUNCAN, Okla. --- Brady Wood fired a 4-under-par 68 on Monday and is tied for second place after the opening round of the 2010 NCAA Division II Men's Golf Midwest/South Central Super Regional at The Territory Golf Club.

The Broken Arrow senior had five birdies and an eagle on the day and would have been atop the individual standings if it were not for a string of three bogeys on holes 8-10 midway through his round. Afterwards, he rebounded to eagle the par-5 No. 11, birdied the par-4 13th, then had five consecutive pars to end the round.

Teammate Kyle Fouts shot 2-over-par 74 and is in still somewhat in contention.

Despite the RiverHawks failing to earn a berth in the regional for the first time in 11 years, Wood and Fouts both have hopes to qualify for the national tournament later this month.

Wayne State leads the team competition after carding a spectacular 10-under-par 278 on the opening 18 holes, seven shots ahead of Central Missouri State. WSU's Aaron Peterson is atop the leader board with his six-under 66.

Play continues on Tuesday and concludes on Wednesday with 18 holes each day.
