RiverHawks' Season Ends With Loss
SUMMARY
Northeastern State's basketball season came to a close on Saturday. Southwestern Oklahoma State got 19 points from Charleston Flemmings and the Bulldogs held off a fierce RiverHawk rally for a 78-74 decision in Weatherford. NSU ended the year at 9-17 overall and 4-8 in Lone Star North action. SWOSU improved to 16-12 and 7-5.
HIGHLIGHTS
- Jermaine Bransford paced Northeastern State with 20 points and eight rebounds
- Antoine Branch poured throug 17, a dozen of those coming in the final half
- Justin Johnson added 14 and Scott Draughon had a career-high 13
- The RiverHawks never led and faced a 19-point deficit (35-16) in the opening half
- SWOSU led 41-24 at halftime
- NSU shot 54 percent from the floor in the final period and steadily made its way back into the game
- Down 67-57 with 5:35 left, the RiverHawks got three baskets from Bransford and two free throws from Johnson to pull within 70-65 with 1:19 showing
- Southwestern pushed its margin back to 10 with :43 to go, but Draughon converted a 3-point play and Branch nailed a 3-pointer for a 75-71 Bulldog edge with :30 left
- Jamere King made the front end of 2 free throws
- Johnson then buried a triple with :12 left and the RiverHawks traled 76-74
- Flemmings sealed the game with 2 charity tosses with :08 left and NSU failed to get another shot following a turnover
