RiverHawks Battle Missouri Southern Saturday
Tahlequah, Okla. - Northeastern State men will be going after their third consecutive win Saturday afternoon at Jack Dobbins Field House when the RiverHawks entertain Missouri Southern State University. Tip-off is 4 p.m.
The RiverHawks in defeating Texas A&M-Kingsville in a Lone Star crossover game 77-53 on Thursday night, ran their record to 4-3," and gave Northeastern State head coach Larry Gipson his 500th career victory. On Monday night NSU rolled over Hillsdale Baptist 99-37.
The Lions enter the Northeastern State game with a 6-2 record and have lost their last two games, falling to Central Missouri 78i-59 and 10th-ranked Southwest Baptist University 83-67 on Wednesday night.
"Missouri Southern is a MIAA team and picked in the upper division of that conference," said Gipson. "We are going to have our work cut out for us. It's another tough Division II basketball club."
In the loss to Southwest Baptist, Jason Adams, 6-5, sophomore forward, led the Lions in scoring with 15 points, followed by Mariun Price, 6-1 senior guard, 12 points and Skyler Bowlin, 6-3 junior guard 10 points.
The Lions enter the game with an 83.65 scoring average and 70.0 points on defense. The RiverHawks are scoring at 67.1 clip and giving up just 51.9 points to the opposition.
Against Texas A&M-KIingsville, the RiverHawks shot 71 percent in the second half and 63 percent for the game on 26-of-41 from the field with senior post Jason Jones collecting a career high 28 points.
However, Jones wasn't the only RiverHawk to score in double figures. Jones was joined by Ethan Anderson with 13, Antonie Branch 11, and Marlon Burnett 10.
Following the Missouri Southern State game, Northeastern State retuns to Lone Star Conference games at Angelo State and Abilene Christian on Dec. 19th and 21st respectively.
