RiverHawks Hammer Storm

TAHLEQUAH, Okla. ---- Northeastern State's Jason Jones scored a game high 19 points and grabbed 16 rebounds to post his fifth double-double of the season as the RiverHawks hammered SE Oklahoma State 55-38 in a Lone Star Conference North Division contest at Jack Dobbins Field House here Wednesday evening.

 

The RiverHawks picked up a much needed conference victory to improve to 9-14 and 4-4, as the Savage Storm fall to 5-18 and 2-6.

 

Northeastern State took control of the game from the start scoring the first 17 points of the game and held the Savage Storm without a field goal until the 11:45 mark of the opening half.  Jones scored 14 of his 19 points during this stretch, hitting 5-6 from the field and 2-2 from behind the arc.

 

The RiverHawks lead ballooned to 19 points at 21-2 and took a 32-16 into the break.

 

In the second half, Northeastern State held the double digit advantage the entire half to cruise to a 55-38 victory.

 

Northeastern State's defense held the Savage Storm to a season low in points at 38 and shooting percentage hitting just 16-57 for 28 percent.  The RiverHawks controlled the boards, out rebounding SE Oklahoma State 45-29.

 

Aaron Arango joined Jones in double figures with 12 points, Ricky Branham added nine points and Ben Rovenstine scored just three points but grabbed eight rebounds and dished out five assists.

 

Carlin Whitten paced the Savage Storm with nine points.

 

Northeastern State will hit the road this Saturday afternoon to take on East Central University.  Game time is set for 4:00
