Jason Jones Earns LSC North Defensive Award

RICHARDSON, Texas – Northeastern State’s Jason Jones, senior post from Cahors, France, has been selected the Lone Star Conference North Division Defensive Player of the Week.

Jones and the RiverHawks used a tenacious defense to keep their unbeaten LSC North streak
alive last week. Northeastern State limited Southeastern State to 28.3 percent field goal shooting
in a 45-40 home win on Wednesday. On Saturday at East Central, which boasts the league’s highest
scoring average of 92 points, were held to 67 points in the RiverHawks’ 79-67 win.

ECU scored 16 points in the final 3:09 against RiverHawk reserves once Northeastern State had built a 73-51 cushion. The two opponents made only three 3-point field goals in 28 attempts (10.7).

For the week Jones averaged a double-double with 17 points and 11.5 rebounds. He made one free throw on a technical foul to put Northeastern State in front for good against Southeastern, then made a layup, two of his 16 points, for a three-point margin with less than a minute left to preserve the victory. Jones scored 18 points and grabbed 14 rebounds in the East Central win.

Northeastern State has won seven straight, is 13-5 overall and 4-0 in LSC North action.
