Jonathan Adams Passes Away

Jonathan Adams, a freshman student-athlete at Northeastern State University, passed away Monday, Oct. 10, at an Oklahoma City hospital following a brief illness.

Adams was an offensive lineman with the RiverHawks football team. He graduated from Harrah High School where he was captain of the Panthers' football team as a senior for coach Greg Willis.

Adams was serving a redshirt season this year at NSU.

“I was deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Jonathan Adams," said Interim President Martin Tadlock. "Although his stay with NSU was brief, he had become a part of our family and we join with his parents and family in mourning his loss to us. We expect soon to recognize Jonathan in a more personal and appropriate manner for his contribution to the football team and our campus.”

Head coach Kenny Evans offered his condolences as well.

“Our players, coaches and staff are at a loss to describe our sorrow at Jonathan’s untimely death," Evans said. "He exemplified all that’s best in a student-athlete at NSU. He always had a smile on his face. He was a good student. He loved being here at Northeastern, and it was privilege to have spent the time that we did with him. As a team and as individuals, we extend our deepest sympathies to his family.”

Dr. Laura Boren, Vice President for Student Affairs, announced funeral services late Wednesday afternoon.

"Jonathan Adams' funeral is set for Monday, October 17, 2011 at 10:00 a.m.," she said. "The memorial service will take place at Choctaw Road Baptist Church, 14971 E Reno Ave, Choctaw, OK 73020-7540.
