RiverHawks Football Slate for 2011 Announced

TAHLEQUAH, Okla. --- Northeastern State's 2011 football schedule has been completed and it features five home games and a trip to San Antonio for a landmark game in that city.

The RiverHawks will open the year at home against Bacone College on Aug. 27. A week later, on Sept. 3, Northeastern State alum Larry Coker and the UT-San Antonio Roadrunners launch their inaugural football campaign at home against the RiverHawks.

Other home games for Northeastern State are against Panhandle State on Sept. 24, Harding on Oct. 15, Southwestern Oklahoma on Oct. 29 and Midwestern State on Nov. 12.

Jeff Konya, director of athletics at Northeastern State, said the schedule will afford fans the opportunity to see a few new teams, some old-time rivals and a UTSA program in its infancy.

"As we make the transition to the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association (MIAA) in 2012, our schedule next year is quite unique since we will be considered an independent," said Konya. "However, the football slate should be quite exciting with games against teams from Oklahoma, Texas, Arkansas and Nebraska. It will be one which gives us games against quality regional opponents. If we can be successful on the field, this schedule can put our team in a position to possibly earn a berth in postseason play."

The full schedule is listed below. Game times have yet to be finalized and will be posted later in the athletic year.
