The RiverHawks are coming off a 2-9 season a year ago. However, head coach Kenny Evans has 19 returning starters from 2009 and a talented recruiting class which lend promise for a successful season.

The Texans are ranked No. 16 in this week's D2Football.com poll and were 10-3 a year ago. Tarleton tied for the LSC championship and earned a spot in the NCAA Division II playoffs. Cary Fowler, defensive coordinator at TSU for six seasons, was elevated to head coach during the off-season to replace Sam McElroy.

Northeastern State's home opener will be against Abilene Christian next Saturday, Sept. 11, at 7 p.m. in Doc Wadley Stadium.
