RiverHawks Extend LSC North Lead
WEATHERFORD, Okla. --- Josh Lewis ran for 137 yards and Billy Blackard logged three of Northeastern State's eight quarterback sacks in a 20-10 win over Southwestern Oklahoma State at Fast Lane Field Saturday night.
Northeastern State kept sole possession of first place in the Lone Star Conference North Division race at 3-0. The RiverHawks also improved to 4-3 overall and 4-2 in the LSC. SWOSU fell to 1-6, 1-5 and 1-3. The victory gives Northeastern State a 2-game lead after LSC North action completed Saturday night.
Other highlights included Drew Patton kicking a pair of field goals, Trey McVay had two receiving TDs and Nate Robinson picked off two SWOSU passes. It was Robinson's second consecutive game with two INTs.
Patton had kicks of 25-yard in the first quarter and 37-yards in the second to give Northeastern State a 6-0 lead for much of the half. Southwestern's Colton Rainey cut the deficit in half when he put through a 33-yarder with :10 to go for a 6-3 score at intermission.
McVay's TDs, each from 14-yards out, came early in the third and with just 1:11 left. The junior finished with five receptions and 56 yards.
Kenny Davis was 11-of-25 with one interception for 107 yards, but Josh Lewis eclipsed the century mark with 137 yards on 17 carries. Lewis had a spectacular 59-yard run that set up the final RiverHawk score late in the game. As a team, the RiverHawks had 336 yards, while SWOSU had 294, with just 87 coming on the ground.
Northeastern State will return home to face rival Central Oklahoma on Saturday, Oct. 23, at 2 p.m. RiverHawk Athletics will feature FREE ADMISSION to those attending the annual President's Cup game at Wadley Stadium.
