RiverHawks Return to Tahlequah Radio

TAHLEQUAH, Okla. (Nov. 11) --- Northeastern State will travel to Wichita Falls, Texas, on Saturday to face Midwestern State in the final regular season football game of the year.

The game has huge implications for the RiverHawks and Mustangs, both of whom will be battling for postseason nods. As such, Tahlequah radio station Lakes Country 102.1 FM will join the RiverHawks Radio Network this week to air the game live on Saturday.

"We have had a lot of feedback from the community expressing their desire to have Northeastern State games back on the local station," said Jeff Konya, RiverHawks' director of athletics. "Through very professional negotiations over the past few weeks, both entities have agreed it is important for us to partner this week to broadcast a game of this magnitude.

"As we move ahead into the basketball season, Lakes Country Radio and Northeastern State Athletics will continue to define what's in the best interests of our students, faculty/staff, alumni and fans and the station's listenership. We hope to announce very soon a new RiverHawks Network, comprised of several stations in our demographic, as well as our audio streaming capabilities on GoRiverHawksGo.com."

MSU is 7-3 on the year and ranked No. 25 nationally. The RiverHawks are 6-4 overall and are co-champions of the Lone Star Conference North Division, a title it hasn't captured since 2007. Northeastern State has secured its first non-losing season since 2001 when it was 5-5. The 2000 squad was 9-2 and qualified for the NCAA Division II playoffs.

It is unlikely the RiverHawks will move up enough in the regional rankings to get a bid in the NCAA Division II Football Championships since they weren't in this week's top 10.. However, a victory over Midwestern State, who is No. 7 in this week's Super Region 4 rating, would go a long way to possibly getting a bowl bid. The NCAA Division II Football Championships are made up of the top six teams in each of the four regions.

Bill Huddleston and Nick Hampton will have the call this weekend from Wichita Falls with airtime slated for 12:30 p.m. and kickoff at 1:00 p.m. The game will also be carried live on GoRiverHawksGo.com and tape-delayed on KYAL 97.1 FM, The Sports Animal, Saturday after 10 p.m.
